The survey reveals that nearly 7 in 10 hiring decision-makers (69%) are utilizing generative AI within their companies. This technology is applied in various areas, including:

  • Data Processing: 52% use AI to manage data about customers, operations, and employees.
  • Customer Service: 27% employ AI to handle customer service inquiries.
  • Content Creation: 26% leverage AI to generate content.
  • Chatbots: 23% deploy AI-powered chatbots to interact with users.

AI’s Role in the Hiring Process

AI is transforming the hiring process in several key ways. Decision-makers believe AI will have a major to moderate impact on:

  • Analyzing Resumes and Cover Letters: 59% see AI playing a significant role in evaluating application materials.
  • Predicting Job Performance: 55% believe AI can help forecast a candidate’s potential success in a role.
  • Facial Analysis in Interviews: 54% think AI can assess a candidate’s engagement and responses during interviews.

Opportunities and Benefits

Despite concerns, AI presents numerous opportunities for both businesses and employees. Hiring decision-makers are optimistic about AI’s potential to:

  • Close the Skills Gap: 58% believe AI can help bridge the skills gap by identifying and developing necessary competencies.
  • Address Workforce Shortages: 52% see AI as a tool to mitigate workforce shortages by improving recruitment and retention strategies.

Additionally, more than 4 in 5 hiring managers (85%) agree that AI will create new job opportunities by:

  • Increasing Efficiency: 54% anticipate that AI will streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Improving Decision-Making: 44% expect AI to facilitate better business decisions through data-driven insights.
  • Enhancing Workforce Management: 43% foresee AI optimizing workforce allocation and performance tracking.
  • Boosting Creativity: 42% believe AI will inspire innovative solutions and creative thinking.

Job Seekers’ Concerns and Employer Perspectives

While many job seekers fear that AI could make their jobs redundant, 84% of U.S. hiring managers assert that AI will never replace the need for human employees. However, only 69% of job seekers share this confidence. Employers are aware of these concerns, with 76% acknowledging that employees are worried about AI rendering them obsolete.

Real-World Impact of AI on Jobs

A recent poll on the Express Blog explored how AI is changing jobs. Respondents shared varied experiences:

  • Positive Impact: 29% reported that AI has positively influenced their jobs, enhancing efficiency and reducing the time spent in performing mundane tasks.
  • Negative Impact: 2% felt AI had negatively affected their roles, possibly through increased monitoring or job insecurity.
  • Hope for Future Implementation: 33% hoped their employers would adopt AI technologies to improve their work environments.
  • Skepticism About AI: 35% preferred not to see AI implemented, fearing it might replace human interaction and creativity.

Survey participants elaborated on AI’s impact:

  • Some foresee AI making certain jobs obsolete but also recognize its potential to aid workforce training and efficiency.
  • Others view AI as essential to compete going forward but are concerned about over-reliance on technology.

In 2023, numerous states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia introduced AI-related legislation to regulate its application in employment.
