The Best Ways to Find Work After Graduating College

While your final semester is drawing to a close, there are still a number of ways to prepare yourself for job hunting. From updating your resume to using connections and job search sites, here are some tips for preparing for a job search. Make sure you read through these tips carefully before submitting your resume. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to a new job.

Update Your Resume

When you first finish college, your resume might be lacking in important information, such as your job title. Although it was likely to be a good one, it probably does not say much about what you actually did. To update your resume, start by reading it from the bottom up. Start by deleting older positions that do not relate to the type of job you want. Then, add new details. In bullet-point format, make sure to list your responsibilities in order of importance.

If you’re a college graduate, you should make sure to update your resume. This includes leaving out any information that may suggest you are still in school, such as your grade-point average or membership in campus organizations. Rather, you should list your education, including the date you graduated and what your major was. If you’re a member of a fraternity, you should mention it. Otherwise, leave it off entirely.

Using Connections

If you want to get a job after graduating from college, consider using your contacts. There are plenty of opportunities to network online and in your community. Join online and local networking groups, as early as you can. These events will connect you with employers who need employees. Job search experts at JobVite found that networking helps 4 in 10 job seekers land a new position. Additionally, recruiters rate candidates who come from networking activities as high quality. In a recent survey, 64 percent of candidates got their jobs by referring friends or family, while 59 percent found their jobs through social networks or company career sites.

The best time to reach an executive is during the early morning hours, but after 5pm is also a good time to meet them. The people you meet and like during this time will become your most valuable connections over time. In addition to networking groups, students can also join organizations that have working members. This way, they’ll be aware of new opportunities and have a list of good candidates to approach for a job.

Prepare For Interviews

How to Prepare for Interviews After Graduating College? There are many ways to prepare for job interviews after college. You can start with mock interviews. Interview questions are common enough, so practicing by answering these questions can help you ace your next job interview. It is also helpful to video-record yourself answering questions to identify problems with your body language and word filler phrases. Practicing this way will give you the confidence you need to impress the interviewer and nail the interview.

When interviewing for a job, remember to be professional but friendly. This is a given, but some people go overboard with their friendliness. Don’t overdo it, or you might come across as fake. Use proper manners and keep your body language polite. Don’t forget to send a thank-you letter, unless the interview is with a family friend. When writing a thank-you note, err on the side of formality, even if you aren’t applying for an internship. In the office, dress appropriately, and be prepared to answer questions that may be specific to the job.

Use Job Searching Sites

Among the different ways to find work after graduation, job searching websites are probably the easiest and most convenient. Not only do they give recent grads an opportunity to search for employment, but they also allow them to submit their resumes to employers. Using these sites will save you a lot of time and effort, and will ensure that you don’t miss out on any great opportunities. You can even customize your job search notification settings so that you get notifications of specific locations, salaries, or other factors. Then, you can organize your callbacks and job offers on a Google Sheet, so you can easily keep track of them. However, beware of fake employers pulling your information from a job search site and harassing you long after you’ve found a job. Using disposable email addresses and cell phone numbers will avoid many headaches down the road.

While some job searching sites focus on networking and social networking, others focus on specific industries. LinkedIn is a useful site for networking with other professionals, while Glassdoor gives insight into companies, including salaries and interview questions. These sites each have a different focus, so be sure to choose the right one based on your skill set and your location. If you’re unsure which sites are best for your needs, use both.

Use An Employment Agency

One reason to consider using an employment agency to find a job is the opportunity to network with local recruiters. These recruiters can make introductions to potential employers and interview job candidates on your behalf. In addition, some of these agencies can cover entire metro areas. You can look up your local staffing agency by searching online. Staffing agencies are paid for their services by employers and cannot charge job seekers for their services.
